International Programmes
In most fields of research, the exchange of ideas and experience and the cooperation between scholars from different countries often proves a strong stimulus for further development. This applies not only to the work of experienced academics, but also to that of the younger generation.
The Foundation is flexible in its use of funds for international cooperation: it can help to include foreign scholars in cooperative projects and frequently supports projects in which German and foreign researchers work together. Similarly, the focussed support of an international exchange of young scholars serves the cause of international cooperation and helps to maintain the professional contacts which were resumed by emigrants after the war.
In what follows, the current programmes of international stipend and exchange programmes of the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung are listed. Applications for such support must be submitted directly to the institution involved:
- "Jürgen-Heideking-Fellowship" of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation for modern and international history at the German Historical Institute, Washington, D.C.
- Guest Stipend Programme at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton
- Guest Stipend Programme at the research centre "Altes Buch/Alte Karte" (Ancient Books/Ancient Maps), Gotha-Erfurt
- "Clemens Heller"-Programme to support research visits of young French researchers in Germany
- Guest Stipend Programme at the Bologna Center of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, The Johns Hopkins University, Bologna
