"Jürgen-Heideking-Fellowship" of the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung for modern and international history at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C.

This Fritz Thyssen Stiftung programme supports research projects on American, German and international history, as well as on the history of German-American relations. The programme is completed through a parallel fellowship of the Annette Kade Charitable Trust Fund (New York City) which is awarded to candidates with a doctorate. This complementary model of support is directed at highly qualified German and American scholars. The fellows work in Washington, D.C., Cologne or Madison WI. Those fellows who are supported by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung are not only given the opportunity of establishing valuable contacts in the academic world during their year's stay in the United States, but in addition - from a base in Cologne - are enabled to help bring to a conclusion a large scholarly project. Highly qualified young academics who have completed their doctorate but who do not as yet have a professorship are the target group in this programme. Decisions as to which candidates should receive a stipend are made by a joint commission of the German Historical Association in Washington and the Department of History of the University of Cologne.
